19LC20 - Puppet Making Workshop for Primary Teachers
Puppet making is an exciting way to develop creativity and also a way for students to explore interpersonal skills.
Jay Ryan (Living with a Fairy, RTE) is offering workshops for teachers which aim to increase confidence in making and manipulation puppets.
Making puppets with your class is a marvellous medium for combining several skills together. Not only is the making of the actual puppet a uniquely creative endeavour for your students but you can then use their creations to assist with other areas of the curriculum. Here is how!
Making and using puppets helps pupils to connect with a character and feeds into their creative writing skills
Students can use the puppets they have made to explore stories and scenarios is an exciting way - this could be used to complement history lessons
It has been noted that when students speak through a puppet they gain in confidence, and feel safe ‘behind’ their puppet character
Puppet making is a craft and children will learn new skills and explore their creativity through the process of designing and making a puppet (Art and Design). Workshop sessions are 2 hours long and all materials are provided.
