The Sensory-Smart School for Primary Teachers & SNA's - 20LC-SP10

Course Outline

‘THE SENSORY SMART SCHOOL’ is a workshop/course for primary teachers or SNA’s who are working with children with sensory processing/integration difficulties in the mainstream classroom.  It has relevance at all class levels. Sensory processing difficulties may present as attention and concentration difficulties, learning difficulties, social or emotional difficulties. The child may have quirky and idiosyncratic habits and sensitivities or be prone to meltdowns.  This may be part of a general Sensory Processing Disorder, an ASD, AD(H)D, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia or some other condition.  The workshop will look at behaviours through a Sensory-lens and explore sensory-based solutions to behaviours which may be causing stress for the rest of the class as well as for the individual child, affecting learning and impacting negatively on emotional wellbeing. Promoting a similar level of awareness throughout the school is important for consistence in terms of behaviour management.
