Promoting Children’s Voice in the Primary School Context

Children’s wellbeing is a focus of recent Department of Education policy and many schools recognise the benefits of listening to children’s voices as a way of enhancing wellbeing. Schools are also encouraged to include student voice in their school self-evaluation reviews. Listening to children has become even more important during the pandemic when children were impacted by long absences from schools, as well as other restrictions.

This webinar will:

  • Explore strategies for authentic listening in the primary school context
  • Provide original lesson plans grounded in the SPHE Curriculum for all classroom levels to teachers
  • Discuss strategies for including pupil voice in school self-evaluation.
  • Among the approaches explored will be circle time, various types of groupwork, and the session will provide opportunities for teachers to interact and share good practice.

Dr. Bernie Collins who will facilitate the session is the author of ‘Looking Outside the Circle’, a manual for primary school teachers which focuses on the use of circle time in the classroom.  She has also co-authored classroom materials which focus on LGBTI+ bullying and gender equality for primary schools.

Book online at www.carrickedcentre.ie and a webinar link will be emailed to you on the morning of the webinar. Please check your SPAM folder if you do not receive the link in your inbox.
