Decades of academic research clearly states that for novice learners’ inquiry-based learning is far less efficient and effective than explicit guidance accompanied by practice and feedback. However, Junior Cycle CBA1: The Past in my Place asks students to undertake an inquiry-based approach into a historical aspect or theme relating to the locality, place, or personal/family history of the student. The aim of this webinar is to demonstrate to teachers how to take an explicit instruction approach to scaffolding the inquiry process for students completing CBA1.
This webinar will provide teachers with a full set of resources to complete CBA1 in their classroom with their students. All attendees will receive a breakdown of the CBA for students, a day-by-day plan of how to complete the CBA over the course of 3 weeks, and appropriate methodologies to be used with Junior Cycle History students. Additionally, Lee will walkthrough a student-centred booklet aimed to help students research relevant information before presenting the data in their response and reflect on the process throughout.
