NQT News

Dear PST Member,

I hope you are keeping well.

As we come to the end of the 2020/2021 academic year, we would like to inform you of changes to the application process for Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) applying for Droichead

In September 2021, the Teaching Council will introduce a new online application process for NQTs who wish to begin their Droichead process. This will include a requirement for NQTs to select the names and registration numbers of the Professional Support Team members (PSTs) who will support and mentor them throughout their Droichead process. This will be facilitated by the Teaching Council’s system in which PST members have been matched to their schools for selection.

To ensure a smooth application process for NQTs and PSTs, I would kindly ask you to check that as a PST member:

  1. Your first name and surname are as per Teaching Council Register

You will need to ensure that the name under which you are registered on the Teaching Council's Register of Teachers is the identical to that on the NIPT’s PST training records e.g. you may have used the English version of your name on the NIPT’s training records and the Irish version on the Register of Teachers or your surname may have changed but you have not yet updated your details.

  • Your employment details are up-to-date

Please ensure that your employment details on the Teaching Council’s Register of Teachers are current and up to date, e.g. you may have moved school since you first registered and have yet to update your employment details. For an NQT to select you as a PST member your employment details (school roll numbers) must match.

  • Your Email Address is up-to-date

Please ensure that your email address on the Teaching Council’s Register of Teachers is current and one that you check frequently, as correspondence will be issued to you in relation to the relevant NQT’s Droichead process, e.g. you will be informed when an NQT has selected that you will act as a member of their PST and will be notified when their Form D has been processed on conclusion of their Droichead process.

You can make changes to your information on the Teaching Council by logging onto the ‘My Registration’ section of the Teaching Council by clicking here.

We will be in touch at a later date with the members of our External PST Panel to give further information on any changes to how this will be facilitated.

If you are unsure of any information NIPT has on record for you e.g. the name under which your training record is stored, please do not hesitate to contact Áine Kilbride, NIPT Primary Administrator on 01 4528016 or via email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Kind Regards

NQT UPDATE INFORMATION for Term 1 2020-2021 school year

Here is the lastest updates NIPT

NIPT provisions will continue to be delivered entirely online for the remainder of the academic year 2020/21. This includes Professional Support Team (PST) training, cluster meetings, induction workshops and other additional events.

Strand B-Cluster Meetings:
As in previous years, NQTs are required to attend one cluster meeting per term, specific to their sector, in sequential order for the duration of their Droichead process. NQTs must have applied for Droichead via www.teachingcouncil.ie and have received a confirmation email from the Teaching Council before registering to attend Cluster Meeting 1.

Cluster Meeting 1
Cluster Meeting 1 remains available online via the NIPT online learning platform and will continue to do so for the remainder of this term. This can be accessed at https://onlinelearning.teacherinduction.ie. Protocols apply in order to be credited with the required 2-hour attendance and subsequent certification to confirm this attendance.

Cluster Meeting 2
Cluster Meeting 2 was facilitated remotely by associates, via Zoom, in March 2021. This will continue to be the case for an additional 2 weeks from April 20th - 29th with dates/times released at staggered time in advance (April 12th and 19th). Additional protocols also apply to this cluster meeting and those NQTs wishing to attend are required to familiarise themselves with them prior to registering. For your information, protocols can be accessed on our website www.teacherinduction.ie.

Cluster Meeting 3
Cluster Meeting 3 will be facilitated remotely by associates, via Zoom, in May 2021 in a similar format to Cluster Meeting 2 above. Further information will be published on our website www.teacherinduction.ie in due course.

Induction Workshops
Induction workshops are open to all NQTs to support their professional learning. While they are not a requirement of the Droichead process, many NQTs use them as an Additional Professional Learning Activity.
The suite of online workshops continues to be available to NQTs via the NIPT online learning platform - 4 Primary workshops; 5 Post-Primary workshops and 3 Cross-Sectoral workshops.
Evidence Based Behavioural Support (NIPTWS09) for Post-Primary NQTs has been added to the suite and is now available. This brings the suite of online workshops to 12, details of which are outlined on our website www.teacherinduction.ie.
