Ukulele an  introduction - 23LCAU38 (Facilitator Nikolaus Ginter)

Teaching Ukulele, a brief introduction into playing the instrument, tools to help develop motor skills, games around the playing of instruments, personal development through music.

The session will involve playing an instrument, learning basic skills in strumming and picking, basic chord shapes, body percussion, games and reflections.

After the first introduction, participants should gather an idea of the uses of the instrument in the classroom, learn basic skills in chord- and melody-playing, get an understanding of the importance of playing a musical instrument for the development of skills.

Learning outcomes in Session 1: learn to hold the instrument properly, coordination, play two to three chords, one or two songs involving these chords, strumming, picking, body percussion and coordination games.

In further sessions, we will explore a more detailed version of the above including expression through music and steps towards composing with the help of the Ukulele.

Bio - 

Nikolaus Ginter, MA, has been a teacher for the last 18 years.  He is also an active musician for more than 30 years who plays a variety of Instruments including Guitar, Ukulele, Violin/Fiddle and Mandolin. The combination of Music and Education proved important when he started teaching Ukulele and general performance Music in schools around Leitrim and in afterschool-hubs throughout the county.

He is a qualified secondary school educator within the Steiner/Waldorf school system and taught Music, History, Geography, Politics and Philosophy in a Steiner school in Austria before he relocated to Ireland in 2018. He was on the board of the Austrian Steiner school Federation as the head of the pedagogical conference and represented Austria in the European Council of Steiner/Waldorf Education. Since 2019 he teaches in schools around Leitrim as a Musician Educator with Music Generation Leitrim

The tutor has advised all ukuleles are fine, any tenor or soprano ukulele will work, bass, banjo, and other types are also okay.
